KISORO – Tourism Police has arrested Richard Tusasibwe, director, Gatatu Safaris Limited four allegedly conning American tourists. Mr Emmanuel Tinka, Commander Tourism Police, Kigezi Region confirmed the arrest but did not give details.
“Yes we have made the arrest but I will give you details later. I am going for a meeting regarding the same issue,” he told Uganda Vanguard Monday August 12th, 2019.
The arrest follows an order by President Yoweri Museveni while on Operation Wealth Creation tour in Kigezi. He is reported to have ordered the arrest of four tour operators who have made it a habit to defraud and steal tourists’ items.
Tusasibwe is said to have entered into an agreement to transport the tourists from Entebbe International Airport to Kisoro, book a hotel, chimpanzee and gorilla trekking permits at Shs7.9 million. The tour operator is reported to have abandoned the tourists in Kisoro after picking them from Entebbe. He switched off his phone and disappeared.
Museveni described such tour operators as ‘fake’ who should be arrested because they are enemies of the state.
The charge against Tusasibwe and the where about of the other suspects is not yet clear.
