Nine dead during festive season

KAMPALA, Nine people died during Christmas and new-year festive season celebration in Kampala and surrounding areas.

According to Mr Luke Oweyesigyire, the Police Spokesperson, Kampala Metropolitan, John Kayemba was found dead on Monday at around 11 pm near his home in Bwaise, a Kampala suburb.

Mr Owoyesigyire said Kayemba’s body was taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for post mortem.

In a related development, Mr Owoyesigyire said an 8 –year-old girl Esther Namagembe and her grandmother Annette Nakintu were electrocuted Mukono District.

It is alleged that after bathing, Namagembe reportedly touched an electric fence that had been installed on a neighbour’s perimeter wall. However, Nakintu rushed to rescue the girl but was also electrocuted.

The police spokesperson said authorities are hunting for the owner of the wall fence for interrogation.

In another incident two people were also electrocuted in Kikaya zone ‘B’ Ntinda and another death recorded of Zinsanze Tumwesigye, a worker at Kisubi Seminary. Mr Michael Owori, a security guard at Katabi Market, Wakiso district was also allegedly murdered by a lover Ms Lillian Asasira.

Others are a Boda boda rider, the body recovered along Northern Bypass and a boy identified as Antony Kabali whose body was dumped in septic tank.

Mr Owoyesigyire said the body was taken to Mulago Hospital for postmortem as investigations are on to identify the cause of the death.

“He was reported as missing after his parents had organized for his birth day party. The body was later discovered by a neighbor.”
