KARUMA, Uganda. Two people have died in a road accident when a lorry regisration number UAN 553U carrying charcoal overturned on Karuma Bridge. According to Mr Emilian Kayima, the spokesperson, Uganda Police Force the fatal accident occurred Tuesday morning, January 1st, 2019.
“Not absolutely true, it was from Nwoya district, two died, others rushed to Kiyrandongo hospital,” he said while responding to social media reports that claimed five dead.
Any other details may follow later, Mr Kayima text Uganda Vanguard in a message.
He called on road users to be careful while traveling and always wait for official police report when an accident occurs.
Mr Kayima dismissed social media report that claimed more people dead.
“An accident has just occurred right now on Karuma Bridge where by a lorry which was carrying charcoal from Gulu to Kampala crushed and broke the bridge. Five died, four were injured and three survived,” it read.
Karuma Bridge is a black spot that has claimed several lives in the past.
